Restorative Practices and Positive School Climate Approaches for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – December 15, 2021

This DC School Behavioral Health Community of Practice meeting on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, explored the restorative practices and how they can facilitate conversations about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. CoP leaders and community partners shared the evidence-based practices and other resources that can be applied by school teams to promote welcoming school environments.

The meeting objectives:
  1. Define JEDI and explore ways to balance the mandate practitioners have as school employees to advocate for students and families to help change any policies or practices that undermine the identity, dignity and/or worth of students.
  2. Understand restorative practices as a continuum and the activities that can be implemented at Tier 1.
  3. Model restorative practices approaches to facilitate conversations about JEDI with members of the school community.
  4. Explore the intersection of practices at Tier 1 to promote affirming a school climate and
    culture conducive to student learning and teaching excellence.
