Creative Strategies for Grief & Loss: TA Session

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), in collaboration with The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools, and the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing have partnered to provide trainings and materials on grief, loss and trauma among children and youth.

Event Description: This TA session builds on the concepts introduced in the Grief & Loss (G&L) Foundational Trainings (A, B, and C). It will revisit key concepts and introduce creative strategies to help address common systemic barriers in practice.

Training Information: This event is a live, interactive training. Participants will have the ability to comment and ask questions both verbally and in the chat feature and will receive real-time communication from all instructors.

Instructor: Melissa Sellevaag, Monique Leopold, M.Ed., EdS & Danielle Palmer, Ph.D.

Instructor Information 

Melissa is currently the Director of Training and Education at the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing. She is responsible for designing and implementing training curricula focused on the intersection of grief and trauma to expand the communities capacity to witness, support and tend to grief. Additionally, Melissa oversees the crisis response program for the Wendt Center which provides support to schools, agencies, and businesses in the wake of tragic events.

Monique Leopold is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist with extensive experience supporting K-12 students in both charter and public schools. She currently serves as a School Psychologist in District of Columbia Public Schools and co-facilitates the Trauma Informed (TI) Practice Group.

Danielle Palmer is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist with over 10 years experience in public, charter, and residential school settings. She is currently an Assistant Professor in School Psychology and Co-facilitator of the Trauma Informed (TI) Practice Group.
 

Additional Training Information 
  • Target Audience: This session is open to participants who have successfully completed the Grief & Loss Foundational Trainings (Parts A, B, and C) and the Grief Groups Training.
